History & Heritage
Learn the story of Varanasi's legendary riverside palace enclave, originally commissioned as a royal retreat in 1901.
A Centurial Royal Retreat
Commissioned in 1901 by the Maharaja of Kashi, the estate served as a grand riverfront guest palace to host visiting European ambassadors, royal dignitaries, and spiritual scholars. Featuring ornate arches and wide view balconies overlooking Dashashwamedh, the building became a legendary landmark on the riverbanks.
Over the course of five years, the palace underwent a monumental, multi-crore restoration process guided by leading historians and local stone masons. In 2014, it re-opened as the Ganges Grand Heritage Hotel, bridging standard five-star Western luxury with the deep cultural soul of India's oldest city.
Our Pillars of Hospitality
Our philosophy is rooted in the ancient Indian tenet of 'The Guest is God'. We treat each guest with imperial respect and customized attention.
We are committed to preserving Kashi's history. Our palace restoration utilized local red sandstone artisans to maintain authentic carvings.
We support our community by sourcing all silk tapestries directly from local weavers and organic grains from near-city farms.
